Buying a puppy?

Una has been mated and her puppies are due at the end of May.

We know of available litters, telephone or email for details. annburt6@aol.com 01383 882062

If your thinking of buying a puppy ask yourself,do I have the time and commitment? He may live for 10-15yrs.
Will someone be at home for the dog?Is your garden safe and dog proof?Does everyone in the family want the dog?Do you have the patience for toilet training? This can take some time.Puppies can be distructive, they need stimulation and get bored if left for long periods on there own.

If you decided to go ahead, only visit reputable breeders.Contact the secretary of the relevant breed club and ask if they know of any litters. When you visit the breeder, ask to see the adult dogs(to give you an idea of what your letting yourself in for!)You should be happy with the tempraments of the adult dogs, and see the pups mother and litter mates, the father may live in a differant area.

The puppies should be kept in clean, dry conditions and should look healthy and happy.
Ask if they are registered with the Kennel Club, ask if the parents have had the relevant health tests for the breed ie.heart testing for boxers, hips elbows and a current eye certificate for labradors,(eyes should be tested annually)
The breeder should give you a record of worming,a diet sheet and some will give you a contract of sale.

Speak to as many people as you can,ask if they can recomend a breeder. When you go to see a litter dont buy unless you are completely happy.
